Juaneco Y Su Combo made some of the most vibrant Latin music of the ‘70s, combining just about every sound that the radio picked up in rural Pucallpa, Peru. These greatest hits draw from rock, Andean folk and plenty of cumbia. On “Mujer Hilandera”, Noé Fachin’s guitar both reaches back to the smooth Hawaiian playing of the early 20th century and anticipates the staccato styles of Western Africa. Meanwhile, the driving “Me Robaron Mi Runa Mula" goes surf rock, with some psychedelic Farfisa organ to boot.
