When Boiler Room traveled to Ramallah, in 2018, it fell to SAMA', a pioneer of the city’s techno scene, to introduce listeners to the spirit of Palestinian dance music. Born in Jordan, raised in Ramallah, and having studied and worked in Beirut, London, and Cairo, Sama’ Abdulhadi was one of the first DJs to bring techno to Palestine, and she brings a fittingly global perspective to the decks: Her Boiler Room set leans on tracks that clubbers might hear at any given club in the world, from artists like Pan-Pot, Pig&Dan, and Carl Cox. But the way she plays these dark, driving techno epics is hers alone. She specializes in intricate, hypnotic loops and layers, and she laces her blends with samples and field recordings gathered from her travels. The end result is proof that electronic music is an international language—as well as a deeply personal expression of innermost passions.
