The brainchild of Tzahal friends Gilad Kahana and Yair Kass, Girafot burst onto the airwaves with their 1999 debut Mesocheach Im Kise—a collection of loose, rustling and rambling songs. This is lighthearted folk-rock for difficult times, and fans embraced Kahana's idiosyncratic view of the world. The meandering "Wow!" was a hit, with Kahana's stream-of-consciousness vocals and twinkling piano dancing atop steady, strummed guitar, with a hint of psychedelia in otherwise laidback vibes.
