Sipurei Poogy—the excellent debut full-length album from the seven-piece band Kaveret—wittily combines comedy with a rock sound that draws on Frank Zappa and The Allman Brothers Band, among others. Originally conceived by the multitalented Danny Sanderson and his group as a rock opera, the record boasts nonsensical songs about boots, grocery stores and strange people literally living in a closet. Released in 1973, it became the first major commercial success for a rock act in Israel.
