Habiluim’s eponymous 2003 debut album was a breath of fresh air for the new millennium. At first listen, it’s a merry-go-round of joyous tones bookended with rock and klezmer, but the band’s cunning socio-political commentary gradually emerges, lending their sound an added dimension. And amid the album’s tuba-laden folk and rockabilly flavours, “Kitchen El Yahud” even takes an Eastern turn, punctuated by the electrifying guitar of masterful Israeli rocker—and album co-producer—Berry Sakharof.
