Mi'Ma'amakim

Mi'Ma'amakim

In the spirit of Idan Raichel’s music, his native Israel becomes a cross-cultural meeting point. Nowhere is that more evident than on the opening two tracks of Out of the Depths. The album segues from a gently swaying, string-laden lament that matches guest vocalist Shoshana Damari’s husky heartbreak tone; to streetwise swagger with an Arab Quarter ambiance. The title track transforms a traditional Hebrew psalm with a trip-hop beat—a melange Raichel conjures throughout, utilising Ethiopian folk sounds and other fare as he expands his reach.
