BAHÍA DUCATI

BAHÍA DUCATI

Though Puerto Rican superstars like Daddy Yankee and Don Omar made reggaetón a global phenomenon in the early 2000s, Boricua slang and flows have remained a genre standard regardless of country of origin. That didn't sit right with Colombian reggaetón sensation Feid, who in 2020 doubled down on the colourful vocabulary and drawling cadence of his native Medellín for the viral smash “PORFA”. The song was a standout from his lo-fi-inspired LP, FERXXO (VOL 1: M.O.R, and featured Puerto Rican singer Justin Quiles. But as the perreo snowball grew, Feid spotted an opportunity to bridge reggaetón's ancestral capitals of Puerto Rico and Panama, with Colombia's new-school hit factory. He tapped into the vast network of friends and collaborators accrued during his days writing hits for peers, assembling reggaetón titans J Balvin, Nicky Jam, Maluma, and Sech for the “PORFA (Remix)”. The revamp raced up the charts, in the process becoming the first taste of Feid's forthcoming mixtape, BAHÍA DUCATI. More relaxed than his laser-focused star turn on 19 and glossier than the pared-down FERXXO (VOL 1: M.O.R), BAHÍA DUCATI arrived in September of 2020—injecting some much-needed levity during the dark days of the pandemic. The tape revelled in the newfound looseness of an established powerhouse, taking fresh sonic and lyrical risks, like on dub-inflected Sech crossover “JAMAICA”. He also followed through on the Puerto Rican connection built off the “PORFA (Remix)”, flexing his superstar muscles to enlist features from reggaetón royalty such as Zion & Lennox (“FOTOGRAFÍAS”), De La Ghetto (“BREAK UP”), Ñejo (“FERXXO X ÑEJO”) and Dalmata (“XX (Remix)”). Even rising stars like Álvaro Díaz and Miky Woodz joined the party, making BAHÍA DUCATI Feid's most guest-stacked project to date. Colombian at its core, BAHÍA DUCATI is also an excellent showcase of Feid's embrace of the pop-oriented production style prevalent in Puerto Rican and Panamanian reggaetón. Soaring hooks and shimmering synth stabs abound, while international production credits include Elektrik, Rike Music, Jhon El Diver and Wain, as well as Feid's longtime hometown confidant, Sky Rompiendo.
