About The Waco Brothers

Often described as "Half Cash, half Clash" for their fiery mixture of classic country spirit and old-school punk energy, the Waco Brothers are the most successful of the many side projects launched by Jon Langford, co-founder of eclectic British troublemakers the Mekons. Playing tough, defiant music with the rebellious, fiercely political worldview of punk, the Wacos added mandolin, steel guitar, and melodies clearly drawn from vintage honky tonk sounds (as typified on 1997's Cowboy in Flames). If the group's take on country music was not designed for purists, their passion was enough to persuade anyone that their love of the genre was genuine. They added a harder rock edge on 2000's Electric Waco Chair and 2002's New Deal, while 2012's Great Chicago Fire was a collaboration with Paul Burch. In 2023, the band launched their own record label with The Men That God Forgot.
