About Arthur Freed

Legendary producer and lyricist, Arthur Freed, had two hugely successful Hollywood careers. With his songwriting partner, Nacio Herb Brown, Freed composed some of the most enduring songs in cinema history, including ‘The Broadway Melody’, ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, ‘Make ‘Em Laugh’, ‘Good Morning’, and ‘Pagan Love Song’, among many others. He also founded the legendary, Freed Unit, who produced most of MGM’s outstanding musicals during 40s and 50s, including The Wizard Of Oz, Meet Me In St. Louis, Easter Parade, An American In Paris (1951 Oscar for Best Film), Show Boat, Singin’ In The Rain, Brigadoon, and Gigi, (1958 Oscar for Best Film). During the 60s, Freed was President of the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences.
