Good Night!

Good Night!

A self-confessed night owl, Bertrand Chamayou assembles a haunting collection of lullabies. As a young father, he often finds himself out of bed in the middle of the night, and this beautiful program celebrates the world between sleeping and waking. The range is remarkably wide, embracing the well-known (Chopin’s “Berceuse” and Brahms’ “Wiegenlied”) as well as the rare and the new. The shimmering “Berceuse” from Busoni’s Elegies is haunting, Bryce Dessner’s “Song for Octave” (his son) is enchanting, and the Alkan piece that closes the album lingers in the mind. Chamayou, a true master pianist, brings out each composer’s character to perfection.
