Claude Debussy: Jeux, Nocturnes, Prélude à l'aprés midi d'un faune

Claude Debussy: Jeux, Nocturnes, Prélude à l'aprés midi d'un faune

François-Xavier Roth and his immensely stylish period-instrument ensemble, Les Siècles, continue their exploration of early 20th-century French orchestral music with a magnificent Debussy programme. Right from the first notes of the Prélude, played by Marion Ralincourt on a flute from 1900, you sense something different: The timbres are dark and velvety, and the music seethes with life. In the ballet Jeux, Roth elevates the spirit of the dance to create a swirling, shimmering panorama, and in the three Nocturnes he finds glorious new colours. Rarely has this music sounded so original and atmospheric while retaining plenty of orchestral bite.
