“This period has made me realise you can’t force inspiration,” Sarah Griffiths—aka Griff—tells Apple Music of the global lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. “It’s made me trust in my talent more, in that if I’m not feeling inspired for two or three weeks, I now know it doesn’t mean I’m a crappy songwriter. It means the ideas will come when they come.” In truth, ideas have flowed for the British singer/songwriter since her 2019 emergence. The five tracks she’s intimately reworked for her Apple Music Home Session underline the confidence of an artist exploring pop’s more interesting corners. “I record most things at home anyway, so it didn’t feel too different,” she says of the experience. “They’re my favourites, so I enjoyed stripping them back and recording them live. I should probably get proper soundproofing, but I just tell myself the natural acoustics keep it raw in a good way.”
