About Hyphen Hyphen

Buoyed by the powerhouse vocals of lead singer Santa, the French group Hyphen Hyphen make electro-pop inspired by the likes of Phoenix and Metronomy on albums including 2015's Times. Singer/multi-instrumentalist Santa (Samanta Cotta), bassist/vocalist Line (Laura Christin), multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Adam (Romain Adamo), and drummer Zaccharie formed Hyphen Hyphen in 2009 as students at the Conservatory in Nice, France. Cotta, the French-American daughter of a singer, became friends with Adamo when they were children, and the pair met Christin and Zaccharie while they were all in high school. The group self-released a pair of EPs, 2011's Chewbacca I'm Your Mother and 2012's Wild Union, before moving to Parlophone for 2015's full-length Times, which spawned the single "Just Need Your Love." The following year, Times and Lives, a version of the album with live performances and remixes, appeared, and the band won the 2016 Victoire de la Musique for Best New Live Act. Zaccharie left Hyphen Hyphen before the release of their second album. Recorded at Air's studio and featuring contributions from producer, songwriter, and vocal coach Guy Roche, HH came out in 2018. Included on the album was the single "Lonely Baby," featuring Kiiara. ~ Heather Phares
