A long-distance runner with one of the most extensive careers in Spanish pop, Luz Casal has displayed charisma, talent and a very personal voice, making her one of the most admired and loved figures in the country over the last 40 years. Incredibly versatile, she has reinvented herself over and over again, from the carefree pop of her beginnings to the tender ballads and heartbreaking boleros on which she overwhelms everyone. Released in 1985, Luz III was the album that catapulted her to massive success—thanks to the help of collaborators such as Santiago Auserón, Antonio Vega and John Parsons. Above all, there was “Rufino”, with delirious lyrics written by Vainica Doble’s Carmen Santonja. It took her to the top of the charts, a place that would become her natural habitat over the following decades.
