About Pat Kelly
While not as renowned as other Jamaican singers of his era, Pat Kelly possessed a strikingly mellifluous falsetto that carried him through the rock steady, early reggae, and even lovers rock periods. Kelly replaced Slim Smith in the Techniques in the mid '60s before embarking on a solo career under the production hand of Bunny Lee in 1968. Kelly--with a vocal approach inspired by American soul singers such as Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield--launched several hits up the Jamaican charts including 1969's "How Long Will It Take." His commercial success waned, but Kelly continued to record sporadically in the ensuing decades.
