Though he already has two studio albums to his name, country singer-songwriter Russell Dickerson is taking his third project as an opportunity to reintroduce himself. The self-titled LP is a decidedly personal and wide-ranging collection of songs from Dickerson, as lyrical themes span marriage, fatherhood, growing older, and moving past youthful indiscretions. “That's why I think it's self-titled for me,” Dickerson tells Apple Music. “It's just like, ‘Yeah, I don't know what's going to get me there, but I know that I freaking love every one of these songs, regardless of what genre label anyone tries to put on it.’ Because there's not one specific song on the album that's like, ‘Oh yeah, this is the whole album in a phrase.’ It's from when I was 16 to when I became a dad. That's just Russell Dickerson.” Highlights on the project include “I Wonder,” on which Dickerson ponders what could have been had he and his now-wife not reconciled a breakup while dating; the romantic “God Gave Me a Girl,” which is sure to become popular wedding fodder; and the sentimental closing track “Just Like Your Mama,” which pays tribute to his son, Remington.
