About I:Cube

I:Cube may have gotten his start at the heyday of the so-called French Touch—his 1996 debut EP featured a Daft Punk remix for the ages—but house music is just one small part of his skill set. Since the mid-’90s, this staple of the Parisian scene has made acid, techno, ambient, disco, nu-jazz, and more. Born Nicolas Chaix, I:Cube started out making deeply funky, subtly playful deep house on Gilb’R’s Versatile imprint, the label that has remained his home for decades. He consistently pushed at the genre’s conventions, collaborating with Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA on 2003’s “Can You Deal With That?” or delving into warehouse rave on 2012’s retro-leaning Lucifer en discothèque EP. On his albums, he has ventured even further afield, exploring psychedelic chill-out on 2006’s Live At The Planetarium and paying tribute to the art of the DJ on 2012’s ”M” Megamix, which combines disco, techno, yacht rock, and more into a seamless, hour-long journey.
