About Carlos Rafael Rivera

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At 11, E.T.'s soaring bike scene with Williams' score moved me. Years later, Morricone's score in Cinema Paradiso's ending evoked similar magic. These stories unveiled the emotive power of film scores, guiding my passion toward becoming a composer. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Ennio Morricone, Cinema Paradiso (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) The Complete Edition John Williams, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (Music From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Ozzy Osbourne, Blizzard of Oz "Blizzard of Ozz" by Ozzy Osbourne: Ignited my music passion via Randy Rhoads' solo "Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricone: A storytelling masterclass in music "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" by John Williams: Set my foundation in approaching film scoring Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sygrayem (Let's Play)” The last track, Sygrayem, from The Queen's Gambit. It was among the first tracks I wrote to the novel, and it survived from its inception to the end. It is a symbol of Beth Harmon's character evolved. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Winning the Grammy for The Queen's Gambit. It was a tie with Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste for Soul, and was nominated alongside Hans Zimmer's Dune, among others. I was SURE Dune would win, but it turned in my favor! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Having as many folks listen to my work as possible. Grateful to have this platform to share my passion!
