About Danzig

Glenn Danzig’s eponymous band combines doomy riffs and blues-inspired grooves with his formidable bellow. In 1987, producer Rick Rubin approached Danzig, who was then fronting the goth-punk outfit Samhain, about signing to Def American Recordings; Danzig wanted Samhain bassist Eerie Von to be part of the package, and he eventually christened the project after himself. Danzig’s self-titled debut came out the following year, and its menacing cut “Mother” became a cult favorite. Danzig II: Lucifuge followed in 1990, and a live EP released after 1992’s Danzig III: How the Gods Kill led to “Mother” becoming a bigger hit and to the band opening for the likes of Metallica and Black Sabbath. Glenn Danzig has been the band’s only consistent member over the decades, but Danzig has continuously released albums in the 21st century, with one highlight being Danzig Sings Elvis, a 2020 release on which Glenn Danzig takes on tracks originally recorded by the King of Rock ’n’ Roll.
