Over the past two decades, Silvestre Dangond established himself as one of vallenato’s most notable torchbearers. Most often aligned with accordionist Juancho De la Espriella, the Colombian singer-songwriter built an acclaimed catalogue of recorded work—including some cross-genre collaborations with reggaetoneros Farruko and Nicky Jam—all the while garnering an ample number of awards and nominations along the way. For this rousing live set, he reaches deep into the vallenato songbook with a particular focus. Opening with some introductory words from the departed singer Jorge Oñate, Dangond returns the favour with back-to-back renditions of “No Voy Al Patillal” and “Mujer Conforme.” As the title suggests, this performance exists to honour the late legend, with covers of further songs from Oñate’s albums populating much of what remains, including closer “Nunca Comprendí Tu Amor.”
