Abri de fortune (pour fin du monde)

Abri de fortune (pour fin du monde)

Quebec MC Koriass is a man of many dimensions. A hardcore rapper with a philosophical bent and a sensitive side, he’s as likely to boast about his skills on the mic as struggle with his inner demons or show his vulnerability on a barbed love jam. There’s all that and then some on his seventh album, the title of which translates as “makeshift shelter (for the end of the world).” On the rugged opener, “Abri de fortune,” he describes himself as a madman who put a curse on “le rap Queb” over haunted synth textures. He keeps it light on “Village des valeurs,” teaming up with groove maestro Mike Clay on a laidback dance-floor ditty about scoring thrift-store swag at Value Village. It all wraps up with “Fin du monde,” an abbreviated ode to his girl that ponders the end of the world.
