About Postmen

A Dutch group who specialize in combining hip-hop with reggae, the Postmen announced themselves in 1998 with their debut single "Cocktail", which immediately entered the Dutch Top 20 charts. The Rotterdam trio, who comprise producer and rapper Anonymous Mis, DJ G-Boah, and singer Rollarocka, adapted its name from Burning Spear's song "African Postmen." The group is just as informed by Jamaican music as it is rap, a genre that had established itself as dominant in youth culture in the Netherlands. As Anonymous Mis explained in an interview: "What I like about reggae is the positive vibe. It’s more peaceful and far less fashion-conscious than hip-hop. So our raps should radiate a sense of peace and unity. At the end of the day, we like to provide entertainment and education." "Cocktail" was followed by the release of "U Wait," then the album Documents, its most notable track being "Renaissance." Featuring female R&B trio Dignity, it provided further proof of the expansion in credible black music taking place in Holland in the late '90s. In the meantime, Anonymous Mis continued to work with Dutch hip-hop talent through the auspices of his production company, Social Life. ~ Rovi Staff
