A collaboration with longtime Twin Peaks composer Angelo Badalamenti might seem like a stretch for Marianne Faithfull, but she pulls it off. Spoken-word recitations from Dante and Shakespeare bookend a moody, strings-saturated album of mostly original pop-noir material. "After a certain age every artist works with injury," she declares in centerpiece "Bored by Dreams," while the cinematic "Love in the Afternoon" measures the risky limits of an illicit affair.
