About Eldbjørg Hemsing
Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing champions her national music around the world while advancing classical music through her work with young musicians and popular concert engagements in China. Born in 1990 in Valdres—the town where the Norwegian national instrument Hardanger fiddles are made—Hemsing began playing the violin at five years old and made her solo debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at age 11. Even at such a tender age, Hemsing's characteristic expressive intensity and radiant tonal luster were already in evidence. She made the definitive recording of Norwegian composer Hjalmar Borgstrøm’s Violin Concerto in G Major, has performed at Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies, and, in 2017, was the first soloist with a western instrument to perform alongside the National Traditional Orchestra Of China. Hemsing collaborates closely with Chinese-born American composer Tan Dun, premiering his violin concerto The Love at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China as well as The Triple Resurrection (2014) and Fire Ritual (2018).
