A couple months before Allday released this album, he tweeted: “I finally feel like I have something to say in my music.” He was right. The Aussie rapper may still be singing about partying, relationships, drinking and weed, but he's matured so significantly between his second and third albums that it feels like far more than two years have passed. The 28-year-old is, mostly, as mellow and pensive as the album's subdued beats and gentle rhythms. On “Best Life”, he sings, “I found a bag of mushrooms in my friend's apartment” and “I’m drinking whisky like a cowboy.” But he balances that out, boasting, “I been reading books that don’t have pictures” and “Might eat a salad for a meal, I’m a grown-up/I barely smoke no more, gotta focus.” He apologises for keeping a girl at arm’s length over the soft driving rhythm of “Don’t Wanna Push You Away Anymore”, and for causing “hurt and tears” on the solemn “Atmosphere”. More than anything, Allday has found a sense of moderation and self-awareness. His melodies have always felt good, but the substance now matches the music.
