Essential Albums
- Vitalic's debut album bridges various French electronic traditions, adopting the hypnotic grind of pioneers like Laurent Garnier and Daft Punk while paving the way for fist-pumpers like the Ed Banger crew. But he also displays a global perspective: "La Rock 01" is bare-knuckled techno with a sleek Teutonic flourish, and "The Past" mimics Kraftwerk. "My Friend Dario" and "No Fun" tackle New York electroclash, while "Newman" is a rock 'n' roll riot. "Poney Pt. I" condenses all those influences into a potent hybrid of nonstop thrills.

About Vitalic
Vitalic is the alter ego of French programmer/multi-instrumentalist Pascal Arbez, who blends electro, techno, and house into a sound akin to Daft Punk and Air, but with its own hard-edged playfulness. Most of Vitalic's key early singles and tracks were collected on the 2007 album OK Cowboy, followed by V Live later that summer. Disco was a strong influence on 2009's Disco Terminateur EP and the single "Your Disco Song," both of which arrived before the second full-length Vitalic album, Flashmob, appeared that fall. 2012's Rave Age took Arbez' music in a more streamlined direction. ~ Heather Phares
