About Tiger Trap
Few bands of the ’90s indie boom lasted for such a short period of time but saw their legacy persist with such staying power. The group formed in 1992 in California, when Rose Melberg (guitar/vocals) and Angela Loy (guitar vocals) recruited bassist Jen Braun and drummer Heather Dunn to form an all-female foursome inspired by predecessors such as Scrawl. At the time, Tiger Trap and peers such as Bratmobile and Heavens To Betsy were an equally femme-centric but slightly less aggressive alternative to the L7/Babes In Toyland-led riot grrrl movement. After releasing a split single with Bratmobile, Calvin Johnson’s K Records picked up the band for their 1993 self-titled debut. However, after 1995’s SOUR GRASS EP, the band called it a day (Melberg, however, has continued recording with K act The Softies).
