About Steve Ross
Steve Ross settled in New York in the early 1970s and became well known as a singer on the city’s cabaret scene after spending time as background pianist. In 1981, Ross was booked into the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel where he played a considerable part in establishing the venue as a perennial favorite of the refined nightlife crowd. In 1989, he hosted a live cabaret series for BBC Television, and in late 1996, appeared in a revival of Noël Coward’s PRESENT LAUGHTER at the Walter Kerr Theater. Ross’s repertoire draws from the work of songwriters past and present, such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and Stephen Sondheim. He has also appeared with stride pianist Judy Carmichael, performing a show entitled STYLE MEETS STRIDE, featuring the music of Fats Waller.
