About Papas da Língua
Brazilian rock group Papas da Lingua were formed in 1993. The group, including Serginho Moah (vocals), Ze Natalio (bass), and Fernando Pezão (drums), was assembled by guitar player/composer Léo Henkin. From the very beginning of their career, their compositions caught the attention of soap opera producers from Globo TV. A number of their songs were featured as themes on popular Brazilian television programs. Their success in commercial ventures did not stop there, as their songs were chosen for a number of other large ad campaigns, including Iguatemi shopping centers and Coca-Cola. The exposure they gained thanks to the advertising world opened doors to large-scale concert venues and international touring opportunities. Consistently playing to audiences numbering over 100,000 paved the way for the success of their breakthrough CD, Xa-La-Lá. Its release made them famous all over South America. By 2003, the group had performed more than a thousand shows across two continents, with over 700 cities visited and more than 100,000 CDs sold. In 2004 Papas da Lingua recorded a live CD and DVD entitled Papas da Lingua ao Vivo Acustico in Sao Pedro Theater, a venue considered a holy temple for Porto Alegre. The concert was so well received by ticket-buyers that the group was forced to add dates, which also sold out. Papas da Lingua have become one of Brazil's largest pop music successes. ~ Evan C.
