Celebrated during his lifetime for his soulful and velvety voice, Mike Mohede—born Michael Prabawa Mohede in 1983—won the second season of Indonesian Idol at just 21. Mohede was as comfortable tackling big pop ballads as he was funky R&B numbers and rousing gospel anthems, a handful of which he recorded during his career, such as “Allah Peduli” and “Terlalu Besar”. “To me, music is the ultimate act of worship. Being on stage, giving joy to other people and inspiring them, that’s my purpose in life,” Mohede said in one of his last interviews. Consider this mission accomplished.
