About Leonardo Aguilar

Leonardo Aguilar is a Grammy-nominated banda and norteño singer and guitarist. He is the son of music icon Pepe Aguilar and Aneliz Álvarez-Alcala, and the grandson of legendary Mexican singer-actors Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre. The country's media has referred to the family as "La Dinastía Aguilar." Aguilar holds dual Mexican and American citizenship (Pepe was born in San Antonio, Texas). The younger Aguilar began accompanying his father on tour as a child, along with his younger sister, singer Ángela Aguilar. At the age of 12, Aguilar and his sister released Nueva Tradición, featuring four songs by each sibling. A year later, with their youngest sister Majo Aguilar, they issued the single "Lo Busqué"; its video ran up more than 40 million views. In December of 2016, Aguilar released his first solo album, Gallo Fino, produced by his father. The younger Aguilar has also worked with other prominent artists including Espinoza Paz and El Chapo de Sinaloa. Gallo Fino was nominated for Best Norteño Album at the 18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2017. His single "Compromiso Descartado" was also nominated for Best Regional Mexican Song. ~ Thom Jurek
