About Janet De Almeida

Janet de Almeida is the creator of two important pieces of the repertory of João Gilberto, "Pra Que Discutir Com Madame?" (with Haroldo Barbosa, also recorded in 1956 by Walter Damasceno) and "Eu Quero um Samba" (with Haroldo Barbosa, also recorded in 1962 by Risadinha). Brother of singer/songwriter Joel de Almeida, Janet de Almeida recorded his first album in 1945, with his "Pra Que Discutir Com Madame?" and "Por Essa Vez Passa." Also from the same year are his recordings of "Vai À Sua Vida" (Carvalhinho/Romeu Gentil) and "Deus Me Dê Saúde." The marcha "Iaiá Não Vai" (João de Barro/Dunga/Mário Rossi) and the batucada "Quem Sabe De Minha Vida" (Dunga) were recorded by Almeida in 1946. ~ Alvaro Neder
