About Flop Poppy

Flop Poppy’s brand of guitar pop has soundtracked many a Malaysian wedding, but their romantic pining is not of the ‘tangkap leleh’ variety. It’s easy to forget, however, that they were indie pioneers in the early ’90s. Though their peers had crossover successes in that decade, frontman Andy got his chance when he was signed to a major label in 2000 and brought the band with him. Their English debut had all the hallmarks of the band from before—Britpop polish with garage-y imperfections—but single “Cinta” defined their future fame. Turns out the band just needed to sing in Malay.
