About Dorian Electra

Hyperpop provocateur Dorian Electra pushes musical and thematic boundaries through their music, shaping a new generation of artists looking to upend conventional notions of songcraft. Born in Houston in 1992, Electra’s earliest pop experiments in the 2010s found them riffing on Austrian philosophy and economics, revealing a clever approach to lyrics coupled with a knack for catchy songwriting. They leveled up in the latter half of the decade, with a more dizzying sound that smashed up dance beats with guitar solos and bass drops. Electra collaborated with Charli XCX on 2017’s “Femmebot,” and two years later, released their debut album, Flamboyant, featuring fizzy dance pop such as “Career Boy” and grittier cuts like the title track. Electra established themselves as one of the key figures in the nascent hyperpop movement, helping define the lyrical themes of the style with a focus on gender fluidity, while also expanding the sounds and collaborators (from Rebecca Black to Village People) allowed in this space.
