About Diego Pisador

Pisador did not necessarily hold any musical stations during his life but was a prominent composer for the vihuela and a collector/copier of the music. The major contribution for which he is noted was his book "Libro de musica de vihuela" or "Book of music for the vihuela." Within the contents of this book are numerous compositions and arrangements intabulated for the vihuela by Pisador. The compositions include works by Josquin, Mouton, Morales, Gombert, Fontana, Nola, Willaert, Arcadelt, and Festa. Pisador maintains that he did not change a note of the master, Josquin, and included a number of compositions of his own, specifically fantasias and variations. ~ Keith Johnson
