About Moodoïd

French electronic/psychedelia group Moodoid take all the airy trappings of French psychedelia and give it a distinctly electronic edge. The band began as a side project for Pablo Padovani, who wrote tracks while touring as the guitarist for Melody's Echo Chamber. His vision took on a life separate from his main band, with a more abrasive sound and heightened theatrics. Moodoid's 2014 debut album Le Monde Möö fused everything from jazz to funk into their sound, defining them as blissfully unpredictable in the process. The initial idea for Moodoid came to Padovani in 2010, as he wanted to incorporate more theatrical aesthetics into his music. The advantage of putting the project together while touring meant that Padovani had access to several musicians, including Muad Nadal (guitar, vocals), Clémence Lasme (bass), Lucie Droga (keys), and Lucie Antunes (drums), many of whom had performed in Melody's Echo Chamber as well. Melody Prochet also put Padovani in touch with her then-boyfriend Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), who offered to produce their eponymous 2013 EP, as well tracks from the debut full-length. The album saw release through Enterprise/Sony and featured a plethora of guests, including Nicolas Vernhes (Animal Collective), Gong, and his dad Jean-Marc Padovani -- a cult jazz musician in his own right. The next three years saw Padovani splitting his time between both projects, until Prochet had a serious accident that meant she couldn't perform for a while. In the meantime, Padovani set about writing his sophomore album, 2018's Cité Champagne, which dialed back the guest appearances but doubled up on electro-pop. ~ Liam Martin
