About Walker McGuire

A country duo formed by two talented young singer/songwriters, Walker McGuire are a pair who make the most of their differences, fusing roots rock with contemporary country and using harmonies and emotionally honest storytelling as their common ground. The group was formed in May 2012 by Jordan Walker and Johnny McGuire. Walker was born and raised in Vernon, Texas, and displayed a precocious talent for music, singing the National Anthem at local sporting events when he was just three years old. Walker grew up listening to country music -- Keith Whitley, Dan Seals, and Reckless Kelly were personal favorites -- and by the time he was attending college at Midwestern State University, he was singing and playing at local honky tonks in his spare time. After a while, Walker decided to move to Nashville and take a shot at the big time. While appearing at a songwriters night at a Music City club not long after settling in town, Walker met McGuire, a native of Fairway, Kansas. Like Walker, McGuire got an early start as a performer, getting his first guitar when he was five years old and sitting in with local bands when he was six. A fan of Tom Petty, Doc Watson, and John Prine, McGuire soon found that his smart, rootsy voice and style nicely complemented Walker's more straightforward country approach, and the two began working as a duo. Walker McGuire were soon gigging regularly in Nashville, and earned national exposure when syndicated disc jockeys Big D & Bubba championed the duo, regularly featuring them on their show. As word spread about Walker McGuire, the two became road warriors, playing up to 300 concerts a year around the country. In March 2016 Walker McGuire released their debut single, "Til Tomorrow," a song about a man struggling with a romantic breakup. "Til Tomorrow" became a viral hit, racking up nearly 20 million plays on streaming music services. A second single, "Mama's Kitchen Table," arrived later that year, and in January 2018, Walker McGuire released their self-titled debut EP. ~ Mark Deming
