About Josef Salvat

Australian-born, London-based singer/songwriter Josef Salvat emerged in 2014 amid a wave of steady buzz for his debut EP, In Your Prime. His elegant and frequently melancholic electro-pop continued to earn fans with singles like "Hustler" from his 2015 debut album. Salvat returned in 2020 with the deeply personal follow-up, modern anxiety. Gravitating toward pop after growing up on a diet of classical music and '80s synth pop, while also teaching himself to play piano, Salvat originally penned his first song at the age of 13, inspired by the death of his grandmother. Moving to Barcelona years later and traveling back and forth to his homeland, Salvat eventually moved to the U.K. to focus on his music career. The release of his single, "This Life," in 2013 was followed by "Hustler" later that year, which again saw music blogs take note of his bruised and affecting pop style that recalled the likes of Morrissey and Lana Del Rey. In 2014, Salvat signed to Columbia Records and issued his first proper EP, In Your Prime. The release included a version of "This Life" as well as a cover of Rihanna's "Diamonds," which reached the U.K. Top 30. His single "Hustler" was reissued in early 2015 and also appeared on his debut album, Night Swim, later that year. Salvat's 2016 single "Heading Home" was remixed by a number of artists including Poolclvb, Le Youth, and Nick Talos. He returned to the studio throughout 2019 to record his sophomore long-player, modern anxiety. Working with Rich Cooper (Tom Odell, the Temper Trap), with help from Banx & Ranx, Martin Craft, and Jacob Manson (from Blonde), Salvat explored a number of personal themes and genres on the album, which was issued in mid-2020. ~ Rich Wilson
