About Doe Paoro

Working under the name Doe Paoro, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Sonia Kreitzer blends elements of soul, R&B, dubstep, and dark-toned pop. After earning critical accolades with her self-made first album, she signed to Anti-, working with members of Bon Iver and making her label debut with 2015's After. Following a trip to Tibet, the Syracuse native began recording under the name Doe Paoro, folding Tibetan opera vocal influences into her own minimalist pop sound. While based in Brooklyn, she began issuing singles in late 2011, eventually retreating to an upstate cabin near her hometown to record her self-released debut LP Slow to Love in 2012. The album garnered enough critical acclaim to draw the attention of Anti- in Los Angeles, where Paoro had recently relocated. She signed with Anti- in early 2015 and quickly released the Hurricane Sandy-inspired single "The Wind," which was produced by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. For her sophomore LP, she worked with co-producers Sean Carey (also of Bon Iver) and BJ Burton (Tallest Man on Earth, Sylvan Esso), recording at Vernon's studio in Wisconsin. The resulting album, After, was released in September 2015. For her third album, 2018's retro-leaning Soft Power, Paoro worked with producer Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Sia) in London, recording the songs live to tape with a powerhouse group of seasoned session musicians. ~ Timothy Monger
