Enigma

About Enigma

The brainchild of Romanian producer Michael Cretu, Enigma is a dance music project that has sold tens of millions of records since debuting in 1990. ∙ Before forming Enigma, Cretu spent the ’80s working under the name Curly M.C., and he produced multiple Platinum-certified albums for Sandra, the German pop star and early Enigma singer. ∙ His 1990 debut album, MCMXC a.D., was a quadruple-Platinum bestseller, popularizing Enigma’s signature fusion of new age, club music, and Gregorian chant samples. ∙ Enigma’s bestselling 1990 single “Sadeness” became a worldwide hit purely on radio and club play, eventually topping the charts in more than 24 countries. ∙ Their 1996 full-length, Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!, and 2006’s A Posteriori both received Grammy nominations for Best New Age Album. ∙ The band remains a club fixture around the world, with eight albums and more than 100 Gold and Platinum certifications.
