About Connan Mockasin

With his winsome vocal delivery, languid guitar style, and surreal sense of humor, Connan Mockasin is a master craftsman of music that’s both adventurous and beautifully serene. Born Connan Tant Hosford in 1983 and raised in rural New Zealand, he began drawing attention in Wellington’s music scene as the leader of Connan And The Mockasins before going solo under his quirky moniker, which was a childhood nickname inspired by his homemade footwear. Mockasin’s idiosyncratic array of influences—folk, blues, pop, soul, and psychedelia—jelled into something special and unpredictable on his 2011 debut, Forever Dolphin Love. Later releases and endeavors have been just as unique, and that’s true whether he’s making film companions to his offbeat songs, collaborating with James Blake and other pals, or surprising fans with curveballs like It’s Just Wind, a delightfully odd 2021 team-up with his father, Ade.
