About David Archuleta
Pop singer and songwriter David Archuleta has built a successful career since finishing in second place on Season 7 of American Idol in 2008. • Archuleta was born into a musical family. His mother was a salsa singer and dancer and his father was a jazz musician. • He began singing at age 6 and won the children’s division of the Utah Talent Competition at age 10. In 2003, Archuleta was crowned the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2. • In 2008, Archuleta finished in second place on American Idol. The three songs he performed on the Idol finale—Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” the original track “In This Moment,” and John Lennon’s “Imagine”—debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. “Imagine” cracked the Top 40. • In 2008, the singer signed with Jive Records and released his self-titled debut album, which hit No. 2 in the US. The lead single, “Crush,” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. • In 2012, the singer embarked on a two-year Mormon mission. • His 2018 Christmas album Winter In the Air went Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. He returned in 2020 with Therapy Sessions, inspired by his battles with anxiety.
