Heidi Brühl

About Heidi Brühl

b. 30 January 1942, Gräfelfing, nr. Munich, Germany, d. 8 June 1991, Starnberg, Germany. Her first professional venture into showbusiness was as an adolescent ballerina before work as a magazine cover model and acting led to an award as Germany’s top television personality of 1961. By then, a parallel career as a recording artist (since 1959) had brought forth chart entries, which she featured in the singing section of her touring cabaret act. In 1960, she had been Germany’s Song For Europe representative with ‘Wir Wollen Niemals Auseinandergehn’ (We Will Never Part) which came second, and was her biggest hit. Translated by Al Stillman as ‘Ring Of Gold’, it failed to make much impression in English language territories. Nevertheless, she was noticed by MGM who found her a leading role in the 1962 fantasy adventure Captain Sinbad - a reliable indicator of this versatile singer’s future direction.
