About Bleu Nuit

Adding a dark, cinematic flair of their own, Montreal's Bleu Nuit draw inspiration from the early post-punk era of bands such as Joy Division, Suicide, and Wire, as well as more contemporary descendants of the style. Their debut album, Le Jardin des Mémoires, was released in 2019. Yan Skene (vocals) and Nicolas Gaudreault (guitar, synths) happened to meet in Montreal just as their other music projects were coming to an end. Both former film students, they also bonded over their common tastes in bands including Preoccupations, Women, Montreal's Corridor, and French musician Julien Gasc. They decided to collaborate and began working on material with drummer Laurent Saint-Pierre. When it came time to record their debut, Malajube's Julien Mineau arranged, mixed, and produced the entirely analog album. Also contributing to the band's expansive, nocturnal sound was bassist Maxime Sanschagrin. The resulting Le Jardin des Mémoires arrived on Michel Records (Canada), Born Yesterday Records (U.S.), and French label Requiem for a Twister (Europe) in 2019. Gasc was featured on one of the tracks. ~ Marcy Donelson
