About Joris Voorn

Amsterdam’s Joris Voorn carved out his own place within a crowded Dutch electronic scene by taking house and techno just a little bit deeper than most of his compatriots. Born in Tilburg in 1977 to a composer and a music teacher, Voorn grew up under the sway of the Netherlands’ high-energy ’90s techno scene, and by the early 2000s, he was putting out lean, percussive tracks that fused Detroit’s lush chords with Europe’s pumping drums. But Voorn gradually expanded his horizons, and with his 2007 breakout album From a Deep Place, he hit upon a richer, more melodic, and more emotional take on club music, folding the moody atmospheres and shimmering chords of deep house into driving, peak-time grooves. Over the years, that sound has remained his stock in trade, despite detours into disco, progressive, and tech-house. While he’s released no shortage of albums over the years, as a producer, Voorn is principally a singles artist, pushing his sound forward one floor-filling anthem at a time. But he’s just as renowned for his DJ sets: His Global Underground installment and multiple live recordings from Tomorrowland serve as snapshots of big-room techno at its most emotive.
