About Kid Kapichi
This raucous, establishment-challenging, Hastings, East Sussex quartet take inspiration from U.S. alt rock while staying true to their British indie punk roots. Kid Kapichi were formed in 2013 when housemates Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham began writing songs together. After composing "Ice Cream" -- which would ultimately become their 2016 debut single -- the pair realized that they were onto something and recruited old school friends George Macdonald on drums and bassist Eddie Lewis. Wilson and Beetham were soon sharing guitar and vocal duties, regularly finding their way on-stage at the local Hastings venue The Tubman. 2017 brought additional live appearances and self-released singles such as "Waster," "Take It on the Chin," and their self-titled debut EP. Momentum was maintained in 2018 with "Revolver" and the Lucozade Dreams EP, but the following year provided the band with much more attention. Tracks such as "2019" and "Glitterati" gained national radio airplay -- on both BBC Radio 1 and 6Music -- in the run up to their July 2019 Sugar Tax EP. At the end of August, the band played at both the Reading and Leeds Festivals, while the remainder of the year saw them sell out shows in London and Brighton, as well as tour Europe with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. Sessions began in earnest for their debut full-length in March 2020 before "Household Shame," a non-album single and their first release in nearly a year, was released in May. The LP This Time Next Year finally arrived in February 2021 and -- like each of Kid Kapichi's releases up to this point -- was issued on their own label. ~ James Wilkinson
