About Jokia

Jokia merges elements of Christian rock, contemporary R&B, and reflective singer/songwriter fare into her devotional songs. Her first EP, Not Forgotten, saw release in 2017. Born in Compton, California, Jokia Williams was inspired to develop her singing talent at the age of 12 and soon began to write her own songs. After graduating from high school in San Diego, she joined the military and took part in the Army Soldier Show, entertaining deployed troops before being deployed herself. It was while stationed in Iraq in the late 2000s that she took up the acoustic guitar and began to dedicate her music to the Christian faith. After leaving the Army, she moved to Texas and played guitar for Shiloh Worship Center in Belton. That experience gave her the opportunity to perform with such marquee names as Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Meanwhile, she studied psychology at Texas A&M University and completed a master's degree in counseling from Letourneau University. Jokia released her first song, "Amen," in May of 2016. The EP Not Forgotten followed on Marquis Boone Enterprises a year later. After starting a family, Jokia returned in 2020 with the single "Yahweh." Featuring production by Jeshua "Tedy P" Williams (Kierra Sheard, Keyondra Lockett), it was released by DarkChild Gospel. ~ Marcy Donelson
