About Rodrigo Amarante

Rodrigo Amarante is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, TV/film composer, and former member of the bands Los Hermanos, Orquestra Imperial, and Little Joy. ∙ Originally intending to be a filmmaker or a journalist, Amarante turned to music in 1997 when his friend Marcelo Camelo invited him to sing with Los Hermanos. ∙ “N Y C Subway Poetry Department,” from legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter Tom Zé’s 2012 album, Tropicália Lixo Lógico, featured guest vocals from Amarante. ∙ He made his solo debut with Cavalo, which was ranked No. 6 on Rolling Stone Brasil’s list of the Best National Albums of 2013. ∙ “Tuyo (Narcos Theme),” his opening track used on the TV series Narcos, hit No. 6 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Digital Songs chart in 2015 and received an Emmy nomination. ∙ Amarante composed his first film score—the soundtrack for Brazilian director José Padilha’s 7 Days in Entebbe—in 2018. ∙ In 2019, he recorded the duets “I Forgot” and “Falling” with Norah Jones.
