Day

Day

A companion album to 2019’s Night, Laurence Ipsum’s tranquil, ambient Day represents his desire to escape from the hectic day-to-day of urban living. An innocent beauty pervades Day’s music, from the broken chords and drifting melody of “Off” via the spiritual simplicity of “Choral” and the title track and “Day (Loop),” with its feather-light strings that tentatively whisper their underlying harmonies. The gentle rocking of many of the tracks—“The Words,” “The Beauty of No,” “Boulder, CO, 11AM”—mirrors the inevitable swing of time’s pendulum toward the final, breathtaking “The Light of Day” as Ipsum glances back at the rural idyll of his dreams, strings glistening in the sun.
