Drummer Emil Brandqvist brings abundant melody and calm to his fourth release with bassist and fellow Swede Max Thornberg and Finnish pianist Tuomas Turunen. In the elegant harmony there’s a distinct classical influence, not least in the rapid spiraling figures of “Interlude.” “Metropol Round” introduces grit and groove, while “Landscapes” and “Under the Starry Sky” push the tempo upward. The ballads are rich and varied, from the rock dirge “Dream” and the slow waltz “Back on the Ground” to “I Miss You,” with synth sounds emulating harmonizing flutes.
